Camp Setup

Lay out your campsite. A campfire is the last thing you set up, but it is the center of your camp in most setup. The second largest area of the layout is for the tent, and next is for cooking area. Secure enough level area if children are major consideration. Choose a site previously used by other campers. Don't forget that have easy access to restroom and water.

Tent

Find a flat spot to set up your tent, preferably a shaded area. Find a spot where your tent would not be swamped in case of a rainstorm. Remove all sharp rocks, sticks or anything else that might cut your tent floor. After all major bumps have been eliminated, set up your tent.

More Useful Tips:

  • If there is no level spot available, angle your tents so your head is higher
  • Keep your tents ventilated by unzipping little of the opening windows.
  • If it's so windy, try to set up in a wind-buffered area, such as behind rocks. Point the low end of your tent into the wind to help prevent a blow-down.. Plant your initial tent stakes with the wind at your back
  • Unroll your sleeping pad, unstuff your sleeping bag and place both inside your tent, then zip it shut. This gives your bag some time to regain its loft.
  • To keep insects out of your tent, always zip the entrance. Zip quickly when entering or leaving.
  • Look above the tent for hanging branches. Consider where your door will face. If you will be breaking camp early, try for morning sun. It might dry the dew.
Kitchen

When you arrive at campsite, don't forget that you have to find a place where you 'll cook and eat besides looking for the location for your tent or RV. Try to find shade if possible. Wherever you camp, you need to keep your food in a safe place. Small wild life animals like squirrels, or chipmunks might be interested in your food. Keep your food together. Put them in 1 or 2 bags and hang the bags in a tree or any high spot for safe overnight storage. Do not give food to a wild animal. It might change their habit. Set up your kitchen reasonably away from your campsite. Avoid cooking aromatic foods.

More Useful Tips:
  • Set up your stove on a flat spot and make sure anything flammable isn't nearby.
  • Filter water in the evening so you can save time in the morning and break camp as early as possible.
  • Sort food and kitchen items separately.
  • Wash dishes right after meal. Do not leave them unclean. Boil water and clean and dry all your dishes. This is for good hygiene as well as to keep unwanted pests or wild life out of your campsite.
