What's the most important consideration in selecting a perfect
campsite? You can narrow your selection by deciding 3 major options. One is to decide
what you want to do, and another is where to camp and the other is to consider what's
available in ( For example, their facilities or what's available nearby). For camping
activities, you may include swimming, playgrounds, pool, phone hook ups, fishing,
boating and so on. Now you need enough information to decide where to camp.
There are lots of ways to collect information
- Call state tourism department.
- Go on the web and get a full of directory by state. You can get campgrounds
directories and parks at TentsOnSale.com Links Page.
- If you are a member of AAA, call or stop by their local office.
- Go to bookstores.
- A Campgrounds chain: KOA- these chain campgrounds maybe not the most interesting
places But most chain campgrounds are clean and convenient.
Things to remember
- Scout the campsites if possible. In heavy camping season( spring through fall),
you should make a reservation in advance. For some campsites, you may need to
pre-select a specific site to get a permit.
- Plan your itinerary with large maps. You need to have complete directions before you're heading.
What's a good spot?
- A site with nearby water source. You need water for cooking, clean up your drinking and etc.
- A site people previously used. The site usually flat and shaded spot and close to a water source.
- A site under shade during the day. Direct sunlight can deteriorates nylon tents.
